Job Location: Aachen Hybrid
job offering skellium

Reshape the Future of Energy. With Us.

At Skellium, we’re not just building better batteries — we’re redefining what’s possible for electric mobility. Based in Aachen and backed by the EXIST Research Transfer programme, we’ve developed a breakthrough manufacturing process for lithium-metal anodes that makes next-generation solid-state batteries safer, more efficient, and ready for scale. Think: EVs with 1,000+ km range. That’s the world we’re building.

We’re a small, ambitious team at the very beginning of something big — and we’re looking for a Master’s student who wants to be part of it.

Master’s Thesis | Safety Concept — Lithium-Metal Anodes

Your Mission

You will develop a comprehensive safety framework for lithium-metal anode technology from the ground up. This means diving deep into hazard analysis, navigating the regulatory landscape, and translating your findings into concrete, actionable safety protocols. Your work won’t just be a theoretical exercise — it becomes the foundation Skellium builds on as we scale our production process.

What You’ll Work On

  • Identify and analyse the key hazards associated with lithium-metal anodes across the full handling chain
  • Evaluate relevant standards, norms, and regulatory requirements applicable to our process
  • Develop practical safety measures covering plant operation, material handling, storage, and emergency response
  • Create and critically assess a safety data sheet for lithium-metal anodes
  • Integrate all findings into a coherent, ready-to-use safety concept tailored to Skellium’s operations

Who You Are

  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering programme at a top European university
  • Solid understanding of the battery market and its key dynamics
  • Structured and self-driven — you take ownership and follow through
  • Curious about complex problems and energised by the idea of working at the frontier of deep tech
  • A team player who communicates openly and contributes to a collaborative culture
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

What You Get

  • Real responsibility from day one in an early-stage deep tech start-up
  • Direct access to founders and industry experts
  • Flexible working arrangements and clearly scoped tasks
  • The chance to shape Skellium’s strategy — your thesis won’t sit in a drawer
  • A front-row seat to building a company from the ground up
