Reshape the Future of Energy. With Us.
At Skellium, we’re not just building better batteries — we’re redefining what’s possible for electric mobility. Based in Aachen and backed by the EXIST Research Transfer programme, we’ve developed a breakthrough manufacturing process for lithium-metal anodes that makes next-generation solid-state batteries safer, more efficient, and ready for scale. Think: EVs with 1,000+ km range. That’s the world we’re building.
We’re a small, ambitious team at the very beginning of something big — and we’re looking for a Master’s student who wants to be part of it.
Master’s Thesis | Process optimisation — Lithium-Metal Anodes
Your Mission
At Skellium, process development isn’t an academic exercise — it has direct consequences for how we manufacture, how safely we operate, and how ready we are to scale. You will take ownership of a technically demanding challenge at the intersection of process engineering, materials science, and practical implementation: designing, analysing, and optimising a core process unit for handling highly reactive materials under realistic laboratory conditions. Your work will shape how we operate today and how we grow tomorrow.
What You’ll Work On
- Design and execute structured experimental series to identify and characterise key process parameters
- Analyse parameter interactions and derive optimisation strategies for stable, safe, and scalable process control
- Validate your developed concepts on an existing production system
- Evaluate functionality and process stability under real operating conditions
- Translate your findings into concrete recommendations that feed directly into Skellium’s production development
Who You Are
- Currently enrolled in an Engineering programme (Industrial Engineering preferred) at a top European university
- Solid understanding of the battery market and its key dynamics
- Structured and self-driven — you take ownership and follow through
- Curious about complex problems and energised by the idea of working at the frontier of deep tech
- A team player who communicates openly and contributes to a collaborative culture
- Proficient in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
What You Get
- Real responsibility from day one in an early-stage deep tech start-up
- Direct access to founders and industry experts
- Flexible working arrangements and clearly scoped tasks
- The chance to shape Skellium’s strategy — your thesis won’t sit in a drawer
- A front-row seat to building a company from the ground up
